The Vampire LARP of the Metagamers

For about three years now, the Metagamers has run an on-going Vampire: the Masquerade larp. The setting for the larp is the fictional city of Metatropolis which bears a startling (and intentional) resemblance to Champaign-Urbana. There's usually a few other larps running on-campus, most notably Elysium on the Prairie, but this is the only one that's an "official" club event.

If you're not familiar with a larp, then here's the gist. Larp stands for Live Action Role Playing, and like the name suggests, the game centers around the players' abilities to improvise the lives and actions of their characters in the first person. Some table-top games are also first person but by-and-large many of them tend to be a mix of in and out of character action. The goal of any larp is to remain in character for the majority of the game.

Of course, if you're getting all dressed up and walking around to talk to people, how do you roll dice? Well, you don't. Or you don't in our larp. Other larps use dice in a tube so that they can't get away from you, but we prefer to the tried and true methods of Roshambo, or as it's usually know: Rock, Paper, Scissors.

If you're interested, head over to Carpé Noctem, the official web site of the vampire larp and check us out. The schedule of games is available online here as a part of the club's calendar but also at the larp site.
