Slayers: Advance
| Gamemaster: | communistbob | |
| System: | D20 system including advanced magic rules and content from unearthed arcana |
Based on an anime that was based partly on 1st edition D&D, Slayers D20 merges the comedic, the serious, and the dark and unfortunate into a single setting. The magic is overpowered, the buildings are fragile, and there's wars both cosmic and mundane to get caught up in ... but not until after lunch. This game utilizes the psychological warefare rules new for Slayers D20; as well as the GoO advanced magic system (first presented for Slayers D20), as well as a wide veriety of content from unearthed arcana -- including taint and sanity mechanics. The game oscillates between slapstick lightheartedness and dark, deadly serious scenes.
The campaign is arranged into episodes and arcs, and strongly stresses character design and development. RP is also strongly favored over purely game-mechanical solutions, especially to social challenges. XP is awarded for plot and character development, not just encounters. Party size and makeup is set by the DM after an interview.
Players
- Raziel (kainesh)
Raised in Saillune at the High Temple of Cephied, Raziel wears beads in her hair and sunglasses at all times -- indoors, outdoors, rain, snow, day, night, all the time. She's a spellcaster and, apparently, an athlete as well. About 17 and pretty enough for her age, she has the unenviable position of defacto "straight-man" in this sometimes overly-silly party. - Fredrick Rockmaninov (chaos_incar)
This fellow, with white robes, a priest's staff, and a long white beard, is in his forties though he looks much older. Clearly either a magic used or else horribly confused, he's been seen to do some very interesting things. In his first encounter with the party, be built a fort from nothing in less than 15 seconds using two spells. Though this combat engineer's style may not fit the party's run-and-gun perfectly, there's no question he brings added depth and a very sharp mind to the group! - Nachash (Boskone)
Nachash Im Kanfaitim Meh Ramot Shel Lyzeille is a noble from Lyzeille, as his unweildly name might already suggest. Armed with a dust mace and a bag of "parlor tricks," this diplomatic courier is more dangerous than he lets on. Looking about sixteen and quite handsome, with a white leather vest and robe over his chainmail shirt, Nachash seems the noncombatant - though the sash with dragons embroidered on it is a bit much ... - Peren (NichG)
This fine fellow, with hands festooned with rings both gaudy and simple, has a mustache, bushy eyebrows, and a sharp mind. Nevermind that said eyebrows and mustache a pink at the edges. Dispite his resemblence to a strawberry milk commercial, Peren is researching the impossible with surprising effectiveness and showing himself a very capable shaman. - Captain Chunder (frobischer)
Captain Chunder is defacto leader of this group, and also it's pointman for battles and bottles. Wielding a ship's anchor as his weapon, he's effective in combat and not too inept at leading. Unfortunately, he often smells of alcohol, and weighs in at substantially more than his anchor -- with an interest in women of the same BMI. Though he may be drunk at all times of the day and night, he can usually be counted on to have at least a clue or two. - Mr. Emet (Minedelt)
A sharpshooter from the Outer World, this strange man smells of sulfer, charcoal, smoke, and schizophrenia. Producing objects from nowhere, blasting people with a double-barreled handgun, and beginning almost every sentence by loudly proclaiming his name and speaking about himself in the third person -- Mr. Emet is stranger than strange, but also quite effective. - Renphir (Drakmore)
This towering soul, 6'8" or better with horns, dresses almost entirely in metal: Plate Armor, Shield, Sword. Beneath one set of artifical armor is another set of natural armor: tough hide coupled with patches of skin that almost appear to be stone. Armored or not, however, this soldier looks the part of a man ready to stand in the front lines ... and knowing this group, he'll have pleanty of opprotunity to do so! - Jonathan (BSPiotr)
This first thing that strikes anyone on examining this fellow are his crimson red eyes and vivid green hair. As if this were not strange enough, he carried the fruit of his coloration around with him: watermelons are on his person at all times. The situation is stranger still, for many of his spells take the form of watermelons: he invokes dark magic, and throws an evil-looking melon; he invokes fire magic, and tosses a melon that trails smoke and sparks. There's no question this is the most random spellcaster yet for our intrepid explorers, but this one has the added bonus of being fairly sharp and very unique. - Lira (Archpirate)
Standing at a diminutive height and dressed head to toe in clothes -- hood pulled tightly down, gloves coverinig hands, the works -- this small woman looks exactly how spies are trained not to look at spy school. Though her appearance screams "suspicious" loudly enough to wake the neighbors, she's actually not all that bad: after all, how bad can someone who rides a housecat around be? She's an archer and a sneak by trade, though, and that's a role that this group desperately needed filled...
